Every year from September 1st to mid-October, Tsugaru Railway operates its autumn tradition, the "Bell Cricket Train" .

The tradition began in 1986 (Showa 61), when the former president of the railway saw a staff member raising bell crickets at a station and thought, "Why not let them ride along on the trains?" Since then, the staff has raised the crickets with great care and affection. What started with just a few crickets has now grown to over 500, thanks in part to donations from local cricket enthusiasts.

Inside each train car, two cages containing about 10 male and 10 female crickets are placed. Their beautiful chirping adds a delightful melody to passengers' journeys, carrying forward the staff's long-standing wish to "bring joy to visitors coming to Tsugaru."
